Falling Stars

I once was asked
Oh, where do the fallen stars go?
And it took me by surprise
Why, they land of course
What comes down must land
And they stopped and they thought
and considered my words
But, why can't I find one?
Not one? I asked
They shook their head in a sad sort of fashion
Not one has landed in my backyard
And I thought about this myself
So, where do the fallen stars go?
And it occurred to me, I had seen a fallen star
So I asked
Have you ever been to the ocean?
Yes, they replied
Have you ever seen the bottom?
No, they replied
Well, when you walk along the bottom
there are many stars to see
and the seastars you'll find there
had once been free
and one day they fell to Earth to land
and since the ocean's so big and so grand
they landed there to rest and relax
So, at once they decided there were stars to be found
they only problem is they lived on a ground
so far beneath their own and the water too
that they'd just have to wait
and wait they'd do
sitting on the beach, watching the sky
just waiting for a star to come falling by
and catch it they would, they told me their plans
and then they'd come show me
just to prove that they can
So later I sat on my porch with my drink
and I looked at the sky and I wondered
now that I knew where those fallen stars land
Oh, where did they fall from?
